ASUS P7P55 Review.

Introduction

The ASUS P7P55 is part of Intel’s new controller hub that is used for the new energy efficient Intel Core I5 and I7 computer processors. Everybody wants to have computer parts that are made to compliment each other. They work much more efficiently and are almost always the best setups to get optimal performance from your computer.

Overview

You will see little of anything visually if you look at a glance at this computer motherboard, but what you won’t notice are the delicate under writings of a great motherboard. NVIDIA’s NF200 PCI Express bridge chip is important because of its sixteen lanes of integrated PCI Express 2.0 connectivity. The NF200 PCI Express bridge chip takes the 16 lanes and turns them into 32! This opens up a whole new ball game if you are comparing computer motherboards

The ASUS P7P55 has a huge assortment of I/Os at its disposal. I personally like the plug-in LED display feature that is used for information from the BIOS. Twin Gigabit Ethernet connections can be nice if you have a reason to split your speed for certain software operations.

The passive cooling system on the regulators and chipsets is very nice. It is seemingly to become more popular among the high end computer motherboards to have this feature. It helps save space if you are used to providing superior cooling to all heat intensive parts of your computer. I like to just hit the main parts and get the majority of the heat under control, but this is a nice side option that the manufacturer has applied to make it that much better.

Conclusion

In summary, this is a great P55 computer motherboard to purchase. It has a couple of nice features that the other computer motherboards are lacking and is already known to for great quality and overclocking ability. The PCI express capabilities can make this a much better buy that you could get from others, but Intel Core I5 and i7 possibility is still a new research and recommendations may occur.

  • In one of my previous articles, I have mentioned how the Intel Atom processor is fueling the growth of Netbooks. Atom processors come in a range of variants; that are divided into a few families of devices depending on the resources available on the processor, clock speed, whether they support multi-threading etc.

Current Variants: The Atom isotopes or the current variants of the Atom processor are 200 family, 300 family, N270 series and Z5xx series processors. A large percentage netbooks have Atom variants powering them. That’s how all pervasive it has become. What makes it so attractive! We shall take a quick look here at the features of these processors. According to Intel there are no particular significance to the numbers assigned to these components; performance or otherwise. For example the Z5xx family members are not necessarily higher performance, faster devices that the 200 family. There are different features to these families though and that is what we shall quickly review here. Ideal way of doing it would have been to present you a matrix of the isotopes vs. features available. However, the format of these articles is not quite suitable for a table like that. We shall try our best to highlight the differences anyway. The processor components available so far are Z540, Z530, Z520, Z510, Z500, N270, 330 and 230. Latest member to join the team is the N280. The major features look like as follows. The format used is the processor number followed by clock speed, L1 cache size, FSB speed and max TDP rating. Clock speed in GHz is a straightforward item. They are around the 1.6 GHz mark except for Z540 and N280 which are faster at 1.86 and 1.66 GHz respectively. Z500 has the slowest clock speed at 800 MHz.

    Z540: 1.86 GHz, 512 KB, 533 MHz, 2.4 W

    Z530: 1.60 GHz, 512 KB, 533 MHz, 2.0 W

    Z520: 1.30 GHz, 512 KB, 533 MHz, 2.0 W

    Z510: 1.10 GHz, 512 KB, 400 MHz, 2.0 W

    Z500: 0.8 GHz, 512 KB, 400 MHz, 0.63 W.

    N280: 1.66 GHz, 512 KB, 667 MHz, 2.5 W.

    N270: 1.60 GHz, 512 KB, 533 MHz, 2.5 W.

    330: 1.60 GHz, 1000 KB, 533 MHz, 8.0 W.

    230: 1.60 GHz, 512 KB, 533 MHz, 4.0 W.

Terms first level cache size is also known as L1 is relatively stable, except the 330 members that are 1 MB L1 cache, clock speed, shows the distribution of raw processing speed of 800 MHz to 1.86 GHz is quite a range. L1 cache in detail.almost the same except the 330 which should show a marginal advantage over similar clock speed processor when really sequential programs are involved. FSB (front side bus) is the interface to memory system off chip. The memory system here is the main memory or the system memory; as they are variously called. This is a specification that largely determines the system performance.

Even though the on-chip processor is really fast, FSB speed really determines how fast the complete system will work on an average. N280 can handle fastest interface at 667 MHz while the Z510 and Z500 can handle only 400 MHz transactions. Other components work at 533 MHz. Unique thing about the N280 is that it can handle HD video, combined with the chipset GN40 it can go right up to 1080p video. What is really interesting about these processors is their extremely low power operation. TDP, thermal design power, is a specification for maximum power design inside the chip that should be taken into consideration for thermal designs. Except for 330 and 230 the ratings are at 2.5 watt levels. The lowest dissipation is on Z500. There are other features included in the processors that help manage the power dissipation closely within those specifications. We shall discuss those at some other future opportunity. The processors have all been designed with 45 nm lithography features and the physical chip measures just 13mmx14mm. Truly miniature sized wonders!

  • Nikon D40 Review Digital Camera.

The Nikon D40 Camera is making the news. Nikon made the new D40 affordable and compact with the point-n-shoot features such as the SLR digital. It is suppose to follow the D50 series, yet it is more affordable. Some of the features are somewhat different, which makes some people wonder if Nikon is not compromising their D50 series.

    Features –

Let’s take a look at the features offered with the Nikon D40 Camera. Instead of using old technology and creating a camera with mega pixel control, Nikon created this series with the viewfinder. Nikon also added the short shutter lag with the extremely short viewfinder blackout.

These significant features make the Nikon D40 Camera more appealing. Yet one of the most significantly difference is that you can no longer alter the exposure steps. There is a custom Auto ISO option. This option was available with the D80 series also.

    Auto focus –

The auto focus is designed solely for the AF-AF-S lens or I. Probably one of the biggest faults with this digital camera is that it doesn’t have the internal focus drive engine. There isn’t any mechanical focus drive pin either.

Some people feel that the CPU contact which allows the Auto Focus to work only with the AF-AF-S lens and I is a strike against the Nikon D40 Camera. These are lenses with built-in focus engines.

The standard lenses on the Nikkor 50mm F1.8D and the F1.4D are manual focus. This Nikon D40 Camera has a different mount than the D80. The D80 model has automatic focus drive pins, which are around seven o’ clock position.

    The chief features

The chief features of the Nikon D40 Camera include the 6-mega pixel DX format CCD, Nikon Image processing engine, the innovative multi-cam530 with 3 areas of AF sensor and the ISO sensitivity range of 200 to 1600 in addition to HI 1. That is an equivalent of 3200.

Other chief features include the custom auto ISO that has selectable options including maximum ISO, or minimum shutter speed. The LCD is a no status and the new LCD monitor is a based status with setting screens.

The viewfinder is much bigger and there are in-camera retouching options. When you compare this camera to the D50 comprises.

  • The other day, I had someone contact me on one of my blogs asking if I thought it would make sense to get the iPod touch just for web surfing.  Since they were under the impression that none of the clones had WiFi, they wanted the iTouch for the web browsing.  They did not want to have to pay a lot of money for a monthly data package and since they already had a low cost cell phone and plan that they liked, they reasoned that they’d get the Touch just so they could get online.

I responded that I have nothing at all against the Touch, I’m sure it would work fine for these purposes.  However, I explained that there are actually a few clones that do have WiFi, so he could actually get web browsing, phone capabilities, MP3 / MP4, Bluetooth, digital camera / web cam, FM radio, etc. without ever having to leave the carrier he’s with now (assuming he has a GSM carrier).  This article will focus on one of the clones that I suggested, the M88 smartphone, and will describe some of the features that make this one of the smartest clones on the market.

The M88 And WiFi (as well as GPS and Windows):  Other than the CECT T32, the M88 is one of the few decent clones that offers Wi Fi.  But, it also has GPS and Windows Mobile 6.0.  Many people really like having Windows on their phone since many use this at the office as well.  You can also use applications and software like SKYPE, MSN, Mobile QQ, Word, Excel, MSN Chat, and read / view PDF / PPT documents.

The M88 And Java:  It wasn’t until recently that the iPhone clones started offering Java support in models like the i68 (SciPhone) and the i9.  This phone supports Java as well and has a very nice gaming experience. There are literally thousands of games available for download, including NES and Java QQ.  This phone vibrates during games which my kids really like.

The TV Out Feature: The MiPhone, (as this phone is also sometimes called), has what is called the “TV out” feature, which means that you can hook the phone up to a TV to show the video stored on the phone on a larger screen.  So, say you take video of your kid’s soccer game for his grandparents.  They aren’t stuck squinting to watch the game on a tiny screen.  They can watch it on your TV just by connecting the phone.

This phone doesn’t have the “shake and tilt” feature, though.  But most people who want this phone are more interested in productivity and find shake control a bit “quirky.”

Quad Band Upgrade:  Of the two smartphones I mentioned before (the T32 and this one) only this model is quad band.  The difference is the 850 MHZ band (some AT&T customers and some Cingular folks are on this).  Many people are totally fine with a tri band, but if you are on the 850 MHZ, you will need a quad band.

Camera(s) Upgrade: This phone actually has two cameras.  The main camera is 2 mega pixels, which is better than most clones, which have 1.3 MPs.  This phone also has a spare camera which is 0.3 aka VGA.  I’m not sure what the point of this is.  I only use the 2MP camera.

Expandable Memory And Transferring Data: You can transfer data with a USB data cable (which Often come with phone) or via memory card.

Smart phone prices are lower than normal iTouch (usually about $ 200 – $ 250 depending on memory), and you can use your own provider. All you have other general Goodies iPhone.

  • Apple unveiled their much awaited tablet called the iPad that will be available in March. The question on everyone’s mind is to preorder the iPad or not to Preorder the iPad. For all the hype and buzz that it has created, we really should delve into what the iPad has to offer that our current breed of mini computers don’t.

What is all the fuss about?

According to Apple, the iPad is a touch-screen tablet that’s created to fill the void between the iPhone and the MacBook. With a 9.7-inch screen, it looks like a large iPod Touch with an accelerometer that allows it to switch from landscape and portrait modes. Early rumors suggested that the screen would be OLED but the final unit comes with LCD. It has In-Plane Switching or IPS to improve on the color reproduction and viewing angle.

A portable device isn’t complete if it can’t connect to the internet. The iPad comes with 82.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for interconnectivity. There are models equipped with 3G data as well. The Wi-Fi only versions will be available starting March while the units with 3G will be available in April. But you will be able to preorder your iPad much before that. More on that later…

The Apple iPad comes with built-in apps, such as the Safari Browser, email client, a music player, iTunes Store, maps, Youtube client, address book, calendar, and a QWERTY keyboard that would take up half the screen when used. It has a photo viewer with map view to see geo-tagged pictures with a slideshow mode.

    iPad Apps

iPhone users are happy to find out that their favorite apps can also run on the iPad with any modifications. The apps will run in a small box in the middle of the touch screen or it can be maximized by clicking on the 2x icon. Existing apps for the iPod Touch or iPhone can by synced to the iPad for free.

There will also be exclusive iPad apps being developed. At present a few already exist, such as the New York Times newspaper reader, a painting app, demo version of Need for Speed game for the iPad, and an MLB.com app for baseball fanatics.

People are saying that the iPad is Apple’s answer to the Kindle and this might be true because Apple launched its e-book app called iBooks, which supports the ePub format. The iBook store features titles from Penguin, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, and Macmillan and Hachette.

There’s a new iWork suite made for the iPad but instead of buying the whole thing, you can purchase individual iWork app individually for $9.99 each. Keynote lets the user create and view presentations. The tablet can be connected to a projector for group presentations. With Pages, the user can create and edit text documents. Lastly, Numbers is an app where the user can edit and create spreadsheets.

    Should you Preorder the iPad?

As is the case, so very often, should you preorder the iPad? You may not be able to preorder it just yet, but when the time comes, I would say Yes! You usually get the best one-time offers during your preorder and how cool would it be to get your hands on the first copies of the iPad. But you would heed to do some research before you pre order the iPad. With every retailer on the planet getting ready to sell it, there are bound to be scams galore. Just make sure you find the best management in the market before investing in these evil men.

  • Internet Cable TV and Hook Up.

Cable TV internet and TV hook up is something that needs to be considered in order to fully enjoy and benefit from a TV watching experience based on the internet. The hardware is becoming more and more advanced, as the new generations are becoming more and more compatible with computers in general. The future is for sure designed around a combination of computers and TV, therefore the internet should not be seen anymore as a different platform than satellite or cable TV.

Cable internet and TV hook up is today so easy and even the new digital boxes and all other sorts of devices can be used interchangeably, as internet or TV sources. This of course, is a major technological breakthrough that, alongside with the new advertising and marketing strategies, will softly guide the transition of mass audiences from traditional TV watching to Internet TV. This is of course a major cultural and social revolution as well that is literally happening in front of our eyes and that will continue in the years to come, smoothly and probably without any major pain.

Cable Internet & TV hook up goes beyond anything ever done or experienced, as it is relatively new, although it feels that has been around forever. Every day new content is produced specifically for the web and the large companies are becoming aware of that, changing their investing strategies. This will boost the Internet TV more for the future from the little back room. We are a real point to life without

  • Now that Apple has formally announced the iPad, which can be used as a full-color ebook reader, will the Amazon Kindle 2 lose it’s popularity in the market for great electronic gadgets in 2010? Here’s a detailed review of each device and how they stack up against each other.

The Kindle 2 and it’s reading display - The Kindle 2 uses the “E-Ink” technology, much like many other ebook readers like the Nook and Sony Reader models, which is a gray-scale display without a back-light. E-Ink screens allow you to see the writing on the display even in extremely bright light situations and from extreme angles.

Since there is no backlight, the device is said to be easier on the eyes than a backlit screen such as a computer screen, or for that matter, the soon to be released iPad.

iPad’s Color Screen – The iPad’s screen is going to allow users to start reading publications such as digital delivered magazines and newspapers in full color. This could prove to be a great selling point for the iPad, and cause a real shift in content delivery methods for many magazines, depending on how popular the device proves to be.

Screen Size Comparison – The iPad screen size is 9.7 inches whereas the Kindle 2 is 6 inches.

Wireless and 3G Capabilities - Both the iPad and Kindle 2 have wireless download capabilities where WiFi is available. However, only the Kindle 2 comes with 3G service standard with the device. The iPad will cost more for 3G models.

International – Both are International compatible devices. Since the iPad simply connects to the internet, it will work anywhere. The Kindle 2 boasts usage in over 100 countries globally for now.

iPad and Touch Navigation – Basically, the iPad is an extra large version of the iPod Touch. The user interface is touch screen, whereas the Kindle 2 is push button technology.

The Many Features of the iPad vs. the One Use of the Kindle 2 – Obviously, it’s going to come down to what you really want to use the device for. The back-lit screen could be seen as a downfall for the iPad if you want to use it for an ebook reader. However, looking at full color pictures in a digital magazine will have many thinking about making the purchase. Of course if you want to watch movies, play games, and use the numerous applications, then the iPad is the obvious choice.

But if you just want an ebook reader, and you are fine with enjoying all your other media on that expensive lap-top you just bought, then the Kindle 2 is probably the choice that makes most sense. The Kindle 2 is designed for ease of reading on the eyes, navigation of book pages, and comes with no special frills. You’ll have to get your enjoyment from the book instead of Features ornate Price is a little easier on the eyes too!

  • Cuddling up with the Nook

In basic substantive ways the Nook operates like other e-readers already on the market, such as the Kindle, its successor, the Kindle 2, and Kindle DX; and Sony’s Touch Edition, Daily Edition, and Pocket Edition Readers. They all use the grayscale E Ink display and have similar fundamental capabilities, although each does have its own particular bells and whistles. What sets the Nook apart is the first-on-the-market full-color e-reader touch screen, which eliminates the need for a keyboard and comprises one-third of its unique front side, which also includes a display screen surrounded by a frame with a user-friendly backward and forward button on each side. The Nook runs Google’s Android OS; and it is the first e-reader to offer an electronic loan option called LendMe, which allows one Nook user to borrow parts of another user’s content for up to two weeks.

Early reviewers of the Nook reported being disappointed in the device’s sluggishness and lack of an intuitive user interface, but they expect any kinks in the software and/or hardware to eventually be worked out, making the Nook a gadget lover’s favorite toy.

Nook sales will receive a powerful boost from the e-reader’s availability to customers visiting any of the almost-800 bricks-and-mortar Barnes & Noble bookstores in the U.S. and Canada. In addition, the new device allows users to download the half-million titles in the Google Books library. This is typical for advanced ebook readers and according to the article “Is the Future of Books in Mobile EBook Reading”, apart from the range of books offered by Amazon for its Kindle, the Sony Reader also allows you access to a large library of books in the public domain that are therefore free to download. The Nook sells for $259.

The Reader: point, shoot, and listen

The e-reader developed by Intel is in a class by itself. Simply called the “Reader,” the handheld device is the result of the collaboration of a long-time dyslexic – and frustrated – Intel employee, Intel’s Health division, and health care industry experts. Like its name, the Reader’s concept is also simple: It photographs labels, recipes, printed instructions, signs, flip chart pages, menus, memos, receipts and other smaller print sources, converts the printed text to digital text, then instantly converts the digital text to speech playback for reading-disabled or blind users and also to an over-sized digital display for low-vision users. The user can wear a headset in public places to avoid feeling conspicuous.

The Reader, in turn, has spawned Intel’s Portable Capture Station to enable Reader users to store larger amounts of texts such as chapters from a book or entire books, newspapers, periodicals and lengthy documents. The Portable Capture Station fits into what resembles a small suitcase, and can be set up on a counter or table, and, with the Reader locked into place, hold newspaper and magazine pages and other large documents which the Reader’s camera can then photograph.

Although the Reader’s price tag of about $1,500 is prohibitive to most individuals, the federal government makes funds available to the states so they can offer low-cost loans to those with disabilities for the purchase of assistive technologies. In addition, the No Child Left Behind Act provides grants and loans to schools so they can purchase assistive technologies for their students who require them for scholastic achievement. Intel works with several associations including the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Center for Learning Disabilities and the National Federation of the Blind to make the Reader available where it is needed, and the Reader has been endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association as an important teaching tool.

The Reader is available through a limited number of retailers, which are listed Intel's on our Web site and include CTL, Don Johnston Incorporated, GTSI, Howard Technology Solutions and HumanWare.
